Overheard at Carcassonne airport as a group of dispirited-looking Brits troop off the plane from Stansted: "Ah, les pauvres Anglais! Ils n'ont plus d'argent!" This unexpected symapthy from the natives does not, of course, translate into any sort of rebate for house buyers from the UK but it gives an idea of both the Britons' changed circumstances and French attitudes towards them.
